Happy Birthday "Bailey Post"

I began "The Bailey Post" 2 years ago this week. My goal was to do one a week and the tally is 104 weeks and  94 blogs so I was close.  At first I just wanted to have someone read  my blog, anyone, anyone?! Well, I have 13 readers now and occasionally one drops off and is replaced. I made that classic writer's mistake right away....being self-conscious about what I was writing. I didn't want to offend either of my 2 readers so I strongly filtered what I wanted to say.

One day I was talking to my dear friend Mike (subject of my next blog) and he said, write your blog for you and if others want to read it fine. I started to relax and think in terms of what I wanted to say. That made writing my pieces more fun for me. Most you know I have a weird sense of humor and I do like writing satire. Poking fun at the dumb things in life helps me remember that life is really just a "Kabuki Theater" of absurdities and coincidences, tragedies fulfilled, human successes and failures, small victories and colossal fuck ups.

Besides Mike's good advice, my son gave me the best advice ever. He said Dad, even though you are writing for yourself, other people will read what  you write and you should have precise language and mechanics. I began writing them in word and editing them to near perfect "king's English" and then importing them into the blog. That made me not look like a rank amateur. He teaches writing in college, so I pay attention.

I had hoped many of you would contribute a piece now and then but only Mike ever did. I know Coach, Austin, Rebecca's (There are 2 that read) Tony, Keith, Linda, Susan, Tom, Tammy and  others have things to say about things. Just type your blog in word and send to me in an e-mail attachment and I'll post. Of course you don't have to and most of you don't. But I know how smart you are, how smart you are you know?! So consider it.

Some have said they like my humor, but then others don't get me at all; some have said they like the sports articles and some don't. Some appreciate the information in the political pieces and others don't care at all about politics. Its an interesting group of people that read. I want to expand my readership but I don't know how to do that so if any of you have any ideas, please let me know. I thought of doing one of those dumb-ass You Tube videos where I am typing nude but then I think naw, it wouldn't go viral, instead I'd be arrested for being viral.

I do need to update, refresh the overall site. I quit putting book and movie titles down because I'm not Oprah and I don't have a staff to come up with my "cool" stuff for you to read and see. You can figure out that for yourself. I have stayed away from writing about personal things because I tell me that if you had wanted to know things about me you would ask. But recently I was in NYC, at a bar with my son, his gf and a mutual friend Steve. I started telling them about my life during the Vietnam protest days and  and they all said later that they found it really interesting. So I got to thinking, well I did live with Indians (sort of) black belt in  Karate, written and produced a play, been a counselor, written and published poetry, had a former girl-friend die in a car crash that I have in many ways never gotten over, and had so many odd ball, weird experiences you wouldn't believe it. I have always been a magnet for the strange. So I might do a few personal pieces this next year.

That's it for my second blog birthday. I opened the gifts, blew out the candles, ate cake and ice-cream and then remembered, oh shit, I'm a diabetic. (just kidding about the diabetic part)
I truly appreciate you the reader and I appreciate your comments.
Blogs for year three start very soon.
By the way, all entries are archived by date.  Look around and find the archive, open it up and read any from the past you want.
Thank you for being a reader, you are helping the in firmed and elderly all at the same time. Good karma!
Will
